Happy St. Paddys!
Dear readers,
A merry St. paddys's to one and all.
I shall be spending the day mostly at work, although there is a parade down 5th Ave today, whcih Lucy will be photographing for me :)
I hope to spend this evening getting drunker in a bar somewhere in mid-town and enjoying the pretend-irish people that spring from everywhere for this annual event.
In other news:
On Friday the president came. Well ok he didnt actually come to see me, but I saw him. Everyone was late for work because the presidents helicopter was arriving on pier 11 and the ferries holding the majority of my firm (& some other commuters) were unable to dock. Brooke inisisted I go and shake his hand on her behalf and wish his party well in the elections. Tom suggested I throw rotten fruit. It was a toss up., but in the end I decided to observe impartially in order to maintain friendships..(it was nothing to do with the armed security, or the mass crowd swarming the area..)
Saturday Suba and I blitzed the apt (which was close to the point of no return).. so that it resembled a home to Lucy when she arrived. The main area of contension was the enormous A4 paper mosaic of manhatten skyline Richard had mounted to our living room wall making the whole room seem like it was dark( yes even with all the lights on, in daylight). As interesting as this was... it had to go.
I had to acquire a spare Mattress from Hima, a duvet from Mayur, and food from the shop. (Its hard work this guest stuff).
Suba and I hit the Mall around 3pm (which took about 45 mins to reach due to Suba's cripple-ness) and then we had to rest again. We had coffee, shopped a little then headed home and slept.
Sunday I jumped on a few trains to JFK and met lucy. After the inital 'ooh yellow cabs' she adjusted quite well and I was able to take her out with normal people without looking too much like a foreigner. We had dinner at Betucci's (the Italian in Newport), drank wine and caught up. Was good. She was pretty knackered from all the planes and trains so she fell asleep the second we got home.
This morning of course there was no time for sleeping. She had to leave with me for work at 7.45am (ho ho- am I an evil friend? There is no time for jet lag in my world...) and left her on Wall Street, we synchronized phones and pointed her towards the nearest food. Then she was left own devices armed with a map and instructions. I'm sure she'll be fine.. *cough*
Many more plans and pics to come keep reading!
