So my week. Lets see,
This week will probably never happen again. Soo much stuff happened I dont know if I will even remember it all. Here goes..
Tueday was my One-on-one tutorial with the idiot tutor. He told me he was 'pleasantly surprised' at my work.- Does this mean he thought I was a complete idiot? Or that most people dont turn in any work at all and I was the exception? Perhaps he just wasnt expecting my calibre of BS.... who knows..?
Anywho, I came out of it relatively unscaved I feel- he however, seemed perplexed by my questions and at one point left the room to look something up! - enough said.
I left the building to greet a snowstorm - yay- and walked home in the cold.
Part-way through Wed I received an Email annoncing my housemate Rohan had been kicked off the course. - Which didnt come as a great surprise. That evening we had to go out for farewell drinks - in which he got absolutely plastered, and we watched. I wouldnt call it a classy send off. He threw up over himself, Tom's hoody, the bar, the tiles outside the bar, himself again. Lovely.
We had to drag him home. He fell asleep on a mattress halfway across the lounge floor where we drew on him until there was no remaining skin. A fun-ish night.
The whole porcess took only 2hrs or so- so I was in bed relatively early.
Thursday was Valentines. The elevator man at work produced a rose and chocolate when I arrived and insisted I go to this Greek restaurant he continues to tell me about. I endured his speel for a while then proceeded to be mocked by various co-workers, internet folk (no names mentioned) and then subsequently housemates.
After work the plan was to meet up with Suba and go and see an overly cheesy chick-flick. However Suba didnt bank on Times Square being busy on valentines eve... I mean why would it be???...so there were no tickets, my phone died and general plans didnt work. So I went to the mall and consoled myself with Shopping :)
Friday Rohan left. It was Pay day! I bought a new Camera (at last!) Stayed in.
Saturday. Jen, Suba, Raj, Helouise and I Met at the PATH Station and headed to midtown to collect our car. Jen drove and 3 hrs later we were in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to see the Amish people. Interestingly the town is called 'Intercourse' and they are not short of entertaining memorabilia!
We watched a film called 'Jacobs choice' surrounding a young Amish boys tough decision whether to join the church or live in 'the outside world.' Then took a tour of the Amish Farmlands, including a farm with no electricity, a farm shop with delights such as 'Shoofly pie' and ' Whoopie pie', and witnessed the day-to-day life of these people. Our guide seemed happy to answer questions so we took advantage of this and posed hundreds. I can't think why people dont like the brits?!
It seems the idea behind the Amish is Family first. People live at home until they marry. They don't have electricity as it could 'take them away from their families.' Although telephones are used, they are outside the home in a phonebox. They don't like cars and this could take them away from their families too far, too fast. Instead they travel in 'buggies' drawn by horses and heat water by gas. They wear traditional clothing and gender sterotypes are adheared too completly. However, they seem content with this, and are very friendly people. Church is also an important thing- but there are no churches as such. Church is held in the home of a church member every other week and the chosen home rotates week by week. Schooling is brief. Compulsory schooling is only until 8th grade and science is not taught. They speak Pennsylvanian-Dutch but hymms are in High German. The Amish shooting not long ago in the news happened in this town also.
After this tour, we visited a typical Amish home to see how they would live with no electricity. Typically they have large families too- it was interesting that the use of batterys for light was not infringing on the rule..
We arrived back around midnight exhausted and went to bed.

I woke up late on sunday and went for brunch with Suba. That was all.
Monday was Presidents day so no work! Horay! I went for lunch in Manhattan then chilled in the flat, Mayur came round, shopped, went to bed.
Now I must catch up on my project for tomorrows class. Keep reading! xx
