Dear friends,
This last week has remained incredibly hot.
I was instructed a dress down code now applies at work until it becomes more bearable.
Nonetheless it is still far too hot to do anything and I plan to start my protesting just as soon as I finish buying hundreds of bottles of suncream on my poor little intern wage.. sniff...
I had to attend the first class of yet another useless module to meet the visa requirements this week horah! This one is supposedly going to teach about careers. ( I dont mean to be a bore but arnt we all on a WORK- study programme? Didnt we all have to have WORK experience to get on said programme? Do you think its likely we already know a fair bit about how to get a job?? ) - just a thought.
Anayway the very large round american man who took the class spent the first 30 mins telling us we were all useless and new nothing about the working world. We needed him (a toad shaped man) or we were doomed. I was less than convinced by this. He went on to tell us that he knew us all better than we knew ourselves then shouted 'you! read this paragraph' and pointed at us (because although he knew us better than we did - he didnt know our names....)
He asked us how many of us could use a computer?- then went on about how this was an amazing capability and we would all need to make sure we highlight this to employers- isnt that like spelling your name correctly -its assumed you can do it?
At one point he told us that women viewed the world differently from men. Men lived to work and women worked to live. He reckons women only intend to work for a few years before its all down hill... (why are we on this programme then??? Maybe I should be getting on with my 'few years' before the doom begins???)
I am very unlikely to be listening to much more from the old sexist toad man who claims to know everything- except my name, anything about computers and gender sterotyping....
Also this week, Suba decided instead of being a reasonable adult she would throw a tantrum and refuse to pay her bills, clean or talk to anyone in the flat. This is fairly annoying as she lives in my room and refuses to converse with me. Two nights she slept on the sofa for some reason? Perhaps in protest? Nobody is sure but it worked for me- the room wasnt freezing and I finally caught up on some sleep! yay!
In other pressing news stories - mysteriously someone/thing has broken the TV, the boys shower, phone and AC unit. Its a fun'ol flat :)
On Friday night Maryam, Bernie and I went for Italian in Newport following a 'Britains got talent' marathon- which was oddly foreign sounding... We got free drinks from the nice waiter in the italian and we have been proimised free ice cream next time! Ah.. what it is to go out with the girls..
Saturday I found myself abandoned again by the newbies so I sat out on the pier and read- althought this again was a bad idea as I now have a 'lorrydriver tan'- I plan to correct this sun burn issue with alternate sitting later today.. lol. I'm british I forget the sun is hot here...!
Last night I went to the pics with Banico & Nick. We saw 'The strangers' - it made no sense! There was no motive, no plot and quite literally you could have left after the first ten mins and predicted the ending! Dont bother with it.
Today I hit the pool for some cooling off time but ended up involved in some front call race with a chinese man. I know- I never ask to be involved in these things... He seemed to think he was far superior to me- I dont really know why. If I were him I would have trained up a bit more before posing a contest with a random swimmer in the next lane.. it wasnt his fault he didnt know I swam for county. He gave up after the fourth length- not even close to an effort! Did he think I was going to'let' him win? I am continuously amazed these days.... lol.
Other events- I was asked to work for the UN for a few days next week as part of the EU procurement forum- which sounds like fun! I have also completed my trip planning horah! Everthing is place - now I am just counting down the weeks!!! I think at last count it stood at 14!!
Next week Rob is visiting so watch out for more pics and the like!!
